For those of you who know me (mostly my friends and fellow Bookstagrammers) and to those who don’t yet, welcome to my Substack!

Who am I?

For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Matt! I’m from Maine, I’m an avid reader and horror fan, and a lover of a nice dram (preferably bourbon or scotch neat). I’ve been on Bookstagram for almost two years, where I host readalongs and book clubs. I co-host book clubs focusing on the works on Stephen Graham Jones and Ray Bradbury and host one for the works of Paul Tremblay.

A few of my current favorite authors are Stephen King, Stephen Graham Jones, Paul Tremblay, Philip Fracassi, Rachel Harrison, CJ Leede, and Clay McLeod Chapman. I’m a huge Twin Peaks and David Lynch fan and I love slasher films, John Carpenter, Alien, and Quentin Tarantino.

Why am I starting a Substack?

My primary outlet for all my book thoughts is on Instagram. I love Bookstagram and that community there and I will continue to post there and host book clubs there just like normal. However, some things I find limiting with Instagram are that character count is limited, many people don’t seem to really read them, and there is this feeling that I need to format every post in a certain way in order to fit in what is expected for Instagram.

On Substack, I’ll reflect on what I’m reading in a more free-flowing manner, giving you my thoughts on the books I’m enjoying, both new and old. Some posts may go deep, some will probably be surface level. For the most part, I’m planning on avoiding spoilers in my posts and if I don’t I’ll include a clear SPOILER TAG so that nothing gets spoiled for you all. I might also share some of my thoughts on film here too.
